IODeL works with local and international partners to expand access to Moi University programmes, build faculty capacity in digital pedagogy, and develop open educational resources.
Collaboration which aims at training Moi University students from selected schools to support them in development of mobile applications to solve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At the moment 30 students are on the programme, 10 from each of the following schools: School of Engineering, School of Information Sciences and School of Sciences and Aerospace Studies.
Aimed at training faculty in Innovative Online Pedagogical Skills as part of IODeL's mandate of Faculty Skills Development to enhance lecturers' capacity for online learning.
In their project Pedagogical Leadership in Africa (PEDAL), 150 faculty staff were trained in Innovative Online Pedagogical Skills to enhance lecturers' capacity for online learning. The training was conducted from the 5th to the 26th of August 2021.
The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) is currently supporting the Institute towards the following activities: evaluation of the Employability Strategy rolled out at the University over the last three years, development of the Open and Distance eLearning 2023 to 2028 Strategic Plan, review of the existing ODeL Policy, and the development of Open Educational Resources (OER). A contribution agreement has already been signed. Professor Wanjira Kinuthia has been appointed as our consultant to support these activities.
Moi University, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland and Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique, Morocco, entered into partnership for the creation of a Centre of Excellence in Digital Education (C-CoDE) under the Digital Education Plan in September 2020. The programme focuses on the Digital Education Plan, where Moi University is benefiting from the creation and development of a Centre for Competence in Digital Education (C-CoDE), training of a sizeable cohort of teaching staff in online teaching, as well as the training of experts in pedagogical engineering and of technical staff.
Through the partnership with EPFL, three members of staff have been trained as digital pedagogy experts, with another 19 successfully completing the Masters Class. These will be awarded during the forthcoming planned inauguration of the C-CoDE at the University, currently under development. Studio equipment worth CHF 15,000.00 will soon be arriving from Switzerland. The University has also undertaken to equip the plenary section with equipment worth KES 1.5 Million.
The Open University, UK together with Moi University, through a letter from the Ministry of Education, State Department for University Education and Research, entered into partnership to train a group of faculty staff as a way of supporting and strengthening the existing digital, online and blended, education capacity and provision.
Skills for Prosperity Kenya is a two and a half year programme which began in August 2021, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), with the overall aim of providing technical assistance to help improve the quality, relevance, equity and cost effectiveness of Higher Education (HE) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Kenya.
The Open University (OU), UK, as part of the programme, worked with selected Kenyan public universities and their nominated staff to support and strengthen their existing digital education capacity and provision. The training course Online Education ended in March 2023. Moi University had 10 trainees who completed the programme.
